The first of two walks from Troutbeck, one on either side of the valley.  Sour Howes (1,585ft/483m) is a low collection of grass covered bumps and the higher Sallows (1,693ft/516m) a boggy fell.  They make up for their dull appearance with views up the valley to the undulating ridge of Yoke (2,316ft/706m), Ill Bell (2,484ft/757m) and Froswick (2,362ft/720m), and down the valley to Lake Windermere.
